German-English Dictionary

This application uses the German-English dictionary data from the TU Chemnitz project, originally created by Frank Richter and maintained since 1995. The dictionary contains over 400,000 entries and is available under the GNU GPL 2.0+ license.

The original Beolingus online dictionary service was operated by TU Chemnitz until June 2024. This modern web application continues to make this valuable linguistic resource accessible with enhanced features for language learning and research.

• Technical Issues: Make sure you're using a modern browser. For persistent problems, check browser console for error messages.
• Learning Data: Your search history and learning analytics are stored locally in your browser. Use the export feature to backup your data.

• Data Storage: All user data (search history, learning analytics, practice notes) is stored locally in your browser using localStorage. No data is transmitted to external servers.
• Learning Analytics: The app tracks mouse movements and search patterns for educational analysis. This data remains private and local to your device.
• Dictionary Data: Dictionary content is fetched from TU Chemnitz servers. Search queries are processed locally within the application.
• Export/Import: You have full control over your learning data through the export/import functionality. Data can be transferred between devices or backed up as needed.
• No Tracking: This application does not use cookies, analytics services, or any external tracking mechanisms.
